Food remains

When I was thinking about "studying food remains" just today, I found this following paper.
  • Chen, T., Y. Wu, Y. Zhang, B. Wang, Y. Hu, C. Wang, H. Jiang. 2012. Archaeobotanical study of ancient food and cereal remains at the Astana Cemeteries, Xinjiang, China. PLoS ONE 7 (9): e45137. doi:10.1371/journal.pone.0045137
Analysing of starch granules and phytoliths, and observing with microscope were conducted to identify the food remains excavated from a site in China. This methodology could be useful for exploring Japanese archaeological materials.
